Here we are; the last game of our 149th Season is tomorrow, and the progression made this year cannot be denied.
The 1XV face Ryton in the last leg of this years round robin style of the County Cup, which is promising to be an exciting game for Sunderland. The Management team have released the squad for this game which sees Kieron Hanlon captain the side one last time this season. The selection process has been difficult for the coaches this week as numbers at training remain strong through to the last training session last night.
This season has seen the 1XV finish second in Counties Durham and Northumberland 1, The Shipwrights (2XV) finishing as league champions of CANDY 2 South league, the Keelmen (3XV) finishing third in the River Blyth League, and our 4XV has been fielded again this year. Overall a great season for the club, with us finishing in a position not seen since the 2006-07 season - where we finished second in the then Durham/Northumberland 1 League.
No doubt the 1XV are going to be well supported tomorrow by the club as we try and polish off the season with a county cup in our cabinet.
"The players and coaches have put in so much effort and work this season and we hope to finish it on a high. All teams have been outstanding.", Chairman Paul Geehan says. He adds, " We are thankful to the coaches. We would not be where we are without the hard work the coaches put into the club."
Thank you for all the support you have given us this season. We look forward to September when we kick off our league campaign in our 150th season.
