Bonus point win for 2s v Blyth

Welcome to the 2s report.

Blyth 2s were our guests at a wind swept (is it ever anything else) Hillview.

The prep prior to the game was a bit disjointed ( 'no shows' from players / refs, disorganised coach etc. etc.).

However we stressed the need to focus on the game at hand which turned out to be necessary as Blyth kept plugging away.

Encouragingly we fielded a lot of young guys in our team including 4 colts..

Stalwarts Black, Padget, Marshall and Brace as ever kept the average age of the team older than it should be.

We had 5 of the starting pack from last week but the back line was a complete change from the Novos game.

Thanks to Chris Little ( a back row player to watch) and Felix for turning out at centre and wing respectively.

In summary we kept the game very tight with lots of pick and go's and direct running from Duncan Bains in midfield.

Blyth made us work hard and they had some talented individuals but I didn't think they created much and we scored two tries in each half to win 20-0

Highlights:

A pack with young players like Fraser, Stephenson, Parker, Sika all contributing did excellent with the pick and go game .

Duncan Bains welcome return; lots of yards made in midfield.

Despite the changes I had a sense of people understanding how the 2s currently play with a sensible approach to the conditions applied by everyone.

Lowlights :

This is really a highlight but Andy Black has racked up 9 tries this season already, he's already looking very pleased with himself. More tries from everyone please.

How can a fullback go 40 minutes without touching the ball? When he's 44, got knackered hammy's, and sore Achilles and had no intention of playing in the first place. His team talks and tactical analysis were as great as ever though.

MoM: A huge amount of energy, aggresion and determination shown in the match by this player at 2nd row. As long as we always have those levels from him, we can always improve the technical stuff. Well done Aaron Stephenson, tremendous performance.
