Sunderland nail the win

Sunderland overcame the reigning county cup holders with a passionate display of go forward rugby.
Both sides were guilty of committing handling errors in the greasy conditions, but after going 5-0 down, Sunderland took the game to the visitors - always a difficult side to handle.
Following a series of forward drives, hooker David Matloch dotted down near the posts following a pick and go, Chris Rochelle adding the extras. 7-5.
Returning from a long lay-off, Josh Jobling scored under the posts, after a number of forward phases, Rochelle converting. 14-5. With both sides missing players, Sunderland adapted to the conditions better with the front row of Isaac Mellefont, David Matloch, Alex Ryan and James Docherty all working hard around the pitch. After a series of loose kicks, City ran the ball back at a backpeddling Sunderland defence to touch down in the corner, unconverted.
Sunderland had two more opportunities to score, but indiscipline cost them, conceeding penalites while camped under City's posts.
As the clock wound down, Matloch drove over the line to claim the decisive score, supported by the abrasive pairing of Jose Saurith and Jai Swalwell, with Rochelle's conversion hitting the upright. 19-10. On the last play, City claimed a consolation score, as Matloch was yellow carded for the team's repeated try-line infringements, but it didn't stop Sunderland securing a much deserved win.
