Starting slowly, Sunderland u11s shared the spoils with Whitley Bay Rockcliff in a see-saw match.
The Ashbrooke youngsters won one and lost one in their home clash against the North Tynesiders. They defeated Gateshead 35-10.
The Stormers took a while to feel their way into the game against Rockcliff, who claiming a brace of tries through home mistakes. Sunderland hit back and crashed over from close range from Jack Cahill.
Sunderland's defensive wall crumbled as Rockcliff powered over to claim a 15-5 win.
In their second clash with Rockcliff B, the Spartans revived Sunderland's cause with Alex Ryan leading from the front, constantly put in through slick handling by Russell Chapman-Smith and Tom Howe. Hard hitting Ethan Ellis rumbled over for a try and lead a defensive effort that reduced Rockcliff to occasional attacks. With Jonathan James tormenting the North Tynesiders through the middle bagging a further brace of tries, the u11s claimed a 20-0 win.
The u11s Sevens team made it to the semi-finals of the Durham County Plate finals, losing to eventual winners Westoe. The Ashbrooke boys beat home side West Hartlepool, Darlington and Houghton, losing by one score to Darlington Mowden Park.
