Sunderland U11s showed their attacking flair to claim a win against neighbours Houghton in a derby clash which rained tries.
After going two tries up in the first few minutes through Bryson Robinson, the Ashbrooke youngsters defence rallied to keep a tenacious Houghton at bay. Wrecking ball Robinson smashed through the Houghton defence to notch a further two tries.
As the second half drew to a close, Josh Jobling weaved and dummied through Houghton's stretched defence to add a fifth try, Sunderland leading 25-0.
The Stormers defence continued to snuff out Houghton's attack in the second period, as Jack Taylor proved a menace for Sunderland, with ball in hand. Adam Williams added a sixth before Adam Shiels robbed a maul and powered to break free, for Sunderland to go 35-0 up.
Houghton continued to battle, putting together a string of attacks with their powerful ball carriers. However, held up on Sundeland's line, the Dairy Lane youngsters could only watch as Jack Cahill was fed by Jonathan James to score for Sunderland. With Sunderland in control, Robinson, fed by interplay between James Marshall and Tom Howe, crashed over for his fifth score. Final score Houghton 0 Sunderland 45.
