Win and draw

Sunderland's iron curtain defence held firm in a see-saw encounter away to Westoe.

The opening periods saw the SRFC boys having to put their defensive game into practice with Josh Jobling, Jack Taylor and Adam Shiels making some miraculous tackles and drives to keep Westoe Blues at arms length. All this effort was proven to be a step too far and Westoe broke the gain line after returning a kick through to gather and score an excellent try against the Stormers.
With the weather turning wet for the the second period, the Stormers used this to their advantage with some slick passing from Adam Williams and James Marshall to make valuable yardage against a determined and fired up wolves outfit, ending 0-0.
In the third period, Sunderland's defence and counter rucking from Lewis Irwin and Williams kept them in the game. Jack Cahill moved the ball wide to put Bryson Robinson over for a solitary try, winning 5-0,
The Spartans faced a development Westoe Reds side, losing out 40-0 and 30-0 in two halves. Will Eachus and Tom Howe attempted to keep the ball in hand and alive, while Irwin and Ethan Ellis led the way with driving runs and a mounting tackle count.
A challenging morning for both teams in cold and wet conditions, but all in all they never gave up on each other and fought till the end every player putting in outstanding performances against a Westoe, who proved to be very organised, competitive and creative, with ball in hand.
