Sunderland played two very physical matches at Hillview today. Conditions were heavy underfoot with a biting north-northeasterly wind to boot!
There was a full squad out today and players were aware that most individuals would play only half a match.
The first match saw Sunderland's Ben Hutchinson intercepting a pass to score the first try of the morning. Great running into the corner by Fletcher Jackson added a further score and then a further try by Hutchinson after a great break saw Sunderland buoyed with confidence. Excellent tackling by Aidan Wayman created the opportunity for Hutchinson to break through for a hat trick. Half time score 4-0 to Sunderland.
Coaches made a number of changes for the second half which brought fresh legs, and a great early tackle by Dean Edmundson enabled a break by Matthew Sanderson, who in turn passed to allow Edmundson to score. Blaydon gave a spirited display but were unable to break through. Further excellent tackling by Sanderson, Tye Hanlon, and Ky Horn let Edmundson burst through for another score. Some great passing and support play allowed Sanderson to break away for the last try of the game.
An excellent performance all round. Final score 6-0
