Sunderland RFC Parent / Carers
Code of Conduct U7 – U18

Parents & Carers
Should:

•Become members of Sunderland RFC and participate in club events.
•Have copies of season training plans and fixtures, obtain coaches contact details, and provide coaches with emergency contact details and any known medical conditions and required medicines or treatments for the young player.
•Ensure that the young players attend practice sessions and games on time with proper playing or training equipment / clothing, such as waterproofs, correct footwear, mouth guard / protective items, a drink and dry warm clothing to change into.
•Ensure that the young player is supervised whilst away from coaching or playing situations, and that travel arrangements to and from training or games are known to the player and coach.
•Inform the coach as soon as possible if the young player is injured, unwell, or not able to train or play in any fixture.
•Become familiar with the Laws of the game and Core Values of Rugby Football. www.rfu.com/thegame

•Ensure that young players learn the Laws and Core Values of Rugby Football.
•Be familiar with the Coaches Code of Conduct, and Players Code of Conduct.
•Be aware that the club has a legal and moral duty of care towards young players, and report concerns of bullying, abuse, or inappropriate behaviour to the Club Welfare Officer.

Parents & Carers
Should:

•Respect decisions made by match officials, accept referee's decisions without question and educate young players to do likewise.
•Discourage and not condone any form of violence or practice against the Laws.
•Never disrespect or verbally abuse young players, officials, fellow spectators or coaches. Sunderland RFC will not tolerate any abuse of players, officials, spectators, club staff or volunteers.
•Encourage all young players in a positive way, acknowledge individual and team performance. Applaud sportsmanship and efforts of young players. Do not endorse or promote a ‘win at all costs’ culture, play to win but not at all costs.
•Observe and appreciate fair play both on and off the pitch and be generous in victory and dignified in defeat.
•Encourage young players to play selflessly, working for the team, not for themselves alone, both on and off the field.
•If you do want to shout make sure it is ‘for’, not ‘at’ the players. Focus on the young players’ efforts, rather than winning or losing.
•Never use foul abusive or critical language. Act as positive role model, and abide by, RFU Safeguarding and Protecting Young People in Rugby policies in relation to verbal and emotional abuse. www.rfu.com/welfare
•Remember that young players are not there to entertain you or meet your expectations. Do not force them to play rugby they must play for their own enjoyment.
•Use our sport for young players to adopt a healthy lifestyle and build life skills.
•Respect our rugby club, its facilities, all players, staff, volunteers, officials and coaches. Sunderland RFC and Ashbrooke Sports Club will not tolerate any form of abuse or inappropriate language or beahviour directed towards any of the above.
